This site is intended to inform about the use of the red cedar species Juniperus Virginiana against domestic pests.

Here are a few examples of common pests  and the problems they cause, and also how to effectively use red cedar wood and red cedar oil against them.

Moth, carpet and fur beetles

Many moths and pests like beetles are nature’s “cleaners”. Their gracing renders holes in clothes made ​​of natural materials such as fur, leather, cotton and wool. Fur and carpet beetles prefer worn or dirty clothes as they hold skin residues. It may be a good idea not to leave worn clothes on the floor. Although carpet and fur beetles prefer natural materials reports show that they also eat synthetic materials.

For starters it’s recommended to sweep the floor well and often (daily, if possible) in order to sweep away as many beetles and other moth pests as possible. Don’t forget to rinse the mop or sweep after use! Vacuuming isn’t a complete solution as you need to empty the vacuum cleaner immediately afterwards. Use red cedar chippings in the bathroom placed in a pretty bowl.
